As technological literacy becomes increasingly important both in higher education and in the workplace, many schools have started tech instruction at the K-12 level. In place of classroom instruction, some schools have taken a more hands-on approach, encouraging their students to sign up as volunteer “tech support” for teachers and other students. The program is designed for students to essentially teach computer skills to themselves. As THE Journal reports: “[w]e didn’t seek out the most tech-savvy students: We wanted students who could easily grasp the idea of self-directed learning, were well-organized and could maintain composure in an interrupted learning environment.”
