DRP-BookLink

DRP-Booklink

Match Readers to Books With DRP-BookLink Software.

DRP-BookLink software is an easy-to-use reference tool designed to help classroom teachers, reading specialists, librarians, and curriculum administrators identify books appropriate for their students’ reading abilities, interests, and ages.

More than 36,000 titles are included in the latest version of DRP-BookLink. Each book has been analyzed for its text difficulty, or readability, and assigned a value on the DRP Scale of Text Difficulty.

All titles in DRP-BookLink have been annotated with a brief description of their content or storyline, and classified

  • as fiction or nonfiction;
  • by the age appropriateness of their content.
  • into 16 general categories, such as, Biography, Sports, Science, and 80 special interest categories,  e.g., Colonial America, dinosaurs, the Holocaust.

Special features of the current version of DRP-BookLink allow you to search for award-winning titles, Newbery Award winners, Coretta Scott King Award winners, and Caldecott Medal winners, and for state book award winners. You can even search by series, for example, American Girl.

How can you use DRP-BookLink?

DRP-BookLink enables you to individualize your instruction. With this software you can create, edit, print, and save lists of books based on the abilities and interests of particular students or reading groups.

Whether you're looking for titles to complement your textbooks or books to include on summer reading lists, DRP-BookLink is the tool of choice. For instance, you could easily prepare lists of books

  • that wouldn't frustrate the slower readers in your 8th-grade class;
  • that would challenge strong readers in your 2nd grade reading group;
  • for a class studying the Civil War;
  • for students with a wide range of reading abilities doing reports on the environment.

DRP-BookLink also enables you to learn the DRP value, or text difficulty, of specific books you are using or thinking of using in your classroom.

DRP Test Scores Provide a Plus.

If your school or district uses Degrees of Reading Power® (DRP®) assessments, finding the appropriate books for your students’ reading abilities is even easier. DRP test scores are reported on the same scale as the difficulty of texts. In other words, if a student receives an independent reading score of 50 on a DRP test, that student is capable of reading, independently, books as difficult as 50 on the DRP scale.

“After testing each of my 8th-grade students using Questar's DRP test, I was eager to set up a DRP classroom library. By that, I mean having the books on my shelves arranged according to their reading difficulty. My students had independent reading levels ranging all the way from 29 to 91! I could easily match the students with books suited to their interests, but until I discovered Book-Link and the DRP program, I had no good way of matching each student with books at his or her reading level.”
