Timothy R. Vansickle, Ph.D.

Vice President, Psychometrics and Research

Dr. Tim Vansickle is Vice President of Psychometrics and Research at Questar Assessment, Inc.  He provides leadership in the areas of policy, research, test development, psychometrics and assessment as well as training support for Questar's staff and clients.  He also oversees the design and development of testing programs and special studies, psychometric consultation for research projects, and representation of Questar on technical and policy committees relative to client activities.

Previously, Dr. Vansickle headed up Standards and Assessment at the United States Department of Education, where his team developed an information database to help track the requirements for states with regard to peer review and assessment requirements.
Dr. Vansickle also served as Director of State Assessments for the Minnesota Department of Education, where he provided leadership and support for test development, psychometrics and research for the state assessment program.
In addition, he worked as a Senior Psychometrician at Data Recognition Corporation, and as Vice President and Director of Research and Custom Assessments at Riverside Publishing. 
Earlier in his career, he developed operational assessments, reports and operating procedures for large-scale assessments of generic workplace skills at American College Testing.
Dr. Vansickle has served on the editorial boards for Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, the Journal of College Counseling and the Journal Guest Reviewer: Computers in Human Behavior.
He is a member of the American Educational Research Association (www.aera.net), the National Council on Measurement in Education (www.ncme.org), the American Counseling Association (www.counseling.org), the American Psychological Association (www.apa.org) and the American Psychological Society (www.psychologicalscience.org).
He has authored several book chapters dealing with measurement topics such as the Types and Uses of Tests In G. Walz & J. Wall (Eds.) Measuring Up: Assessment Issues for Teachers, Counselors, and Administrators. Alexandria, VA: Association for Assessment and Counseling and Eric CASS.  He also has written dozens of journal articles and has presented at national education conferences since 1986.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Vansickle developed several software programs that have helped schools and districts manage test data and provide a simple solution for producing local summaries of testing information.
He earned his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Texas A & M University, a Master of Science in Educational Psychology from Texas A & M University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota.
