Terry Appleman

Vice President, Performance Assessment

 

Terry Appleman is the Vice President of Performance Assessment at Questar Assessment, Inc.  She directs all activities related to handscoring constructed responses for Questar's large-scale assessment programs.
Under her direction and supervision, Questar accomplishes handscoring for general assessments, alternate assessments for students with severe cognitive disabilities, and assessments for English language learners.
Ms. Appleman works with state clients regarding their assessment plan, rubric design and revision, handscoring protocols, and professional development planning and implementation. Under her leadership, hundreds of readers accomplish the scoring of millions of responses each year.
Ms. Appleman, with over 20 years experience in the assessment industry, has made a significant contribution to the development and scoring of alternate assessments for students for whom general assessments are not appropriate. She has developed materials for and conducted rangefinding sessions and teacher training workshops for many state assessment programs.
Previously, she was the Director of Performance Assessment Services for Data Recognition Corporation, where she was responsible for supervising the handscoring activities for large-scale performance assessment projects.
Ms. Appleman has completed graduate coursework in reading instruction at the University of Minnesota and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
